Brand New CAF Urbos 100 for Sydney Light Rail

Hi all!

So i was on my way home from work the other day and while waiting for my bus at Eddy Ave, Central i noticed one of Sydney’s new trams out and about undergoing driver training!
This one was numbered 2127 (photo below)

4 Brand New CAF Urbos 100 Trams will soon run the L1 Dulwich Hill Line.
These Trams are numbered 2125, 2126, 2127 & 2128 continuing on from the Urbos 3 numbers which are numbered 2112 then 2114 through to 2124.
There is no 2113. It is said that there is no 2113 because 13 is a bad luck number and will bring bad luck to those going to The Star.

NIF (Mariuyng) D Sets Not to Enter Service Until Late 2024

Sydney’s new fleet of Intercity Trains known as Mariyung, D Set or NIF (New Intercity Fleet) have had a rough trot.

With over 80 sets currently in Australia not one has entered service.
There are a number of safety issues that need to be rectified including the need for modifications to make the train suitable for Driver & Guard operation.
At this stage the trains are driver operated only until these modifications are complete.
A link to the news video will be added below.

In this video you will see and hear in detail what’s happening with these trains.
It is also made clear that these trains are getting the modifications needed and will not enter service until the later part of 2024.
A good thing in a way right?
More time with our V Sets 😁

These trains are way behind schedule due to the precious government making the silly choice to make them driver only.
They were meant to enter service on the:
Central Coast & Newcastle Line in 2019
Blue Mountains Line in 2020
South Coast Line in 2021

The colossal amount of sets here are stored throughout the network at places including
Broadmeadow Yard
Sulphide Junction
Wollongong Yard
Lithgow Yard
Lithgow Loco
Enfield Yard
Chullora Scrap Yard (my personal favourite)

The costs are crazy too!
Storage is exceeding the 10’s of Millions
Modifications will cost nearly a quarter of a Billion!

The modifications, understandably will take a while but at least the ball is finally rolling.

Sydney’s New Light Rail Vehicles

Hi all.
Upon walking by the new Light Rail Depot in Randwick i saw one of our new Alstom Citadis X05 Light Rail Vehicles sitting somewhat close to the fence.
Close enough to get an ok photo as you can see above.
The fleet number of the Light Rail Vehicle above is 007.
The following day while passing on the bus i saw 6 of the vehicles parked in the yard.
The new line is set to open next year (2019) so it is something to look forward to.

Just though i’d share that with y’all :)

Thanks for reading!

Tangara T106 Update

Typed on Friday 25th March 2016

Hi all.
Welcome to another STV Blog.

A lot of you have asked me when Tangara T106 is going to come back to Sydney after having it's major upgrade.
It has been at UGL Broadmeadow for almost 2 months now.
The last thing i heard is that a couple of weeks a go it was in one of the sheds completely stripped out.
The Tangara Technology Upgrade is suppose to take about 4 weeks per Tangara Set (maybe less).
As T106 is the first to get the upgrade it will take a bit longer as it's pretty much a prototype.

I will definitely be out to photograph and film T106 leave UGL on the day it is released.

The Tangara Technology Upgrade is suppose to include CCTV, internal PIDS, new driver dash etc.
It may or may not get a new livery.

More info will be shared as soon as it comes to hand.

Thanks for reading.

Lady Class Ferries To Be Retired This Year

Monday 1st February 2016

A pinch and a punch for the first day of the month! Lol

Hey all and welcome to another STV Blog.

Today i want to talk about the Lady Class Ferries that run in and around Sydney.

For those who don't know what they look like there is a photo below.

We have 2 Lady Class Ferries in service.
Lady Northcott (as shown in the photo above) & Lady Herron.
These two ferries will be retired this year and will be replaced with six brand new state of the art ferries.

The Following info is open for correction however im quite sure it's correct.

Lady Northcott entered service in 1974.
Lady Herron entered service in 1979.

I'd suggest that all transport enthusiasts take a ride on these ferries and get as many photo's as possible before it's too late.

Thank you all for reading!

Newcastle Demolition Update 1

On Tuesday 10th November 2015 i boarded a train from Epping to Hamilton then got a Newcastle Shuttle Bus Route 110 to Wickham to see what has happened so far in terms of demolition of the Newcastle Line.
Upon walking up to Wickham station i noticed that most of the Pandrol Clips have been removed from the tracks.
Pandrol Clips are used to lock the train tracks to the sleepers.
The overhead wiring has also been removed from Wickham to Civic stations.
Overhead wiring remains from Civic to Newcastle.
Within a week id say that all Overhead wiring will be removed.

Photo (below): A notice for one of the areas where a walkway has been formed over the tracks will be closed due to overhead removal.

Photo (below): Workers removing overhead wiring between Wickham and Civic Stations.

Photo (below): On a brigher note one of their trucks were stuck in the ballast!
___________________________________

Photo (below): Once the overhead wiring is taken down it is cut up into 2-3 metre segments as seen in this pile.

Photo (below): Workers and a cherry picker make their way into Civic station for the removal of more overhead wiring.

The overhead wiring on the other side of the footbridge i was standing on remains but not for long.

Thank you all for reading.

Please share.
