An Hour at Otford

On the 11th of November 2015 i decided to take a trip to Otford on the South Coast Line to do some filming and photography.
Here are some photos that were taken.

This train came from Port Kembla.

While waiting for some electrics to pass Otford i was notified that there was a coal train approaching with a 48 Class attached.
The weather was looking bad so i was uncertain about whether i could get a photo of the 48 or not because my iPhone doesn't take the best photo's when it's overcast or raining.
Just as first thought when the 48 class lead by 2 or 3 82 class loco's i took a photo that turned out blurry!
However! Upon inspection of the photo it turned out it was a good motion blur shot.

Sorry it took a while to post this Blog.
I was very busy with the Sydney Trains Vlogs YouTube Channel.

Upon walking through the set i noticed that T64 has a "Dinosaur" theme.

I remember a few months ago when a Tangara has a Minions theme.

Newcastle Demolition Update 1

On Tuesday 10th November 2015 i boarded a train from Epping to Hamilton then got a Newcastle Shuttle Bus Route 110 to Wickham to see what has happened so far in terms of demolition of the Newcastle Line.
Upon walking up to Wickham station i noticed that most of the Pandrol Clips have been removed from the tracks.
Pandrol Clips are used to lock the train tracks to the sleepers.
The overhead wiring has also been removed from Wickham to Civic stations.
Overhead wiring remains from Civic to Newcastle.
Within a week id say that all Overhead wiring will be removed.

Photo (below): A notice for one of the areas where a walkway has been formed over the tracks will be closed due to overhead removal.

Photo (below): Once the overhead wiring is taken down it is cut up into 2-3 metre segments as seen in this pile.

The overhead wiring on the other side of the footbridge i was standing on remains but not for long.

Old Helensburgh Station & Metropolitan Tunnel

OLD HELENSBURGH STATION & METROPOLITAN TUNNEL:

Old Helensburgh Station and Metropolitan Tunnel were part of the Old Illawarra Railway.

OLD HELENSBURGH STATION:

The Old Helensburgh Station Opened in 1889 and was closed in 1915.
It has been closed for 100 years this year (2015).

The old station use to be covered in earth until recent times.
It was uncovered for historic purposes.

The original station sign has been restored and preserved.
This sign was taken down for a period of time due to vandalism.

The old station is a great place to explore.

METROPOLITAN TUNNEL:

Metropolitan Tunnel (AKA Glowworm Tunnel) is located approximately 30 metres from Old Helensburgh Station.
This tunnel is also known as Glowworm Tunnel due to Glowworms seen on the roof of the tunnel at night time or deep inside the tunnel.
Metropolitan Tunnel is 624 metres in length.
The northern entrance to Metropolitan Tunnel is adjacent to Old Helensburgh Station.
There is no access to the southern entrance to the tunnel as it has been plugged (wall blocking the southern entrance to the tunnel).
Metropolitan Tunnel was used as a dam which explains why the southern entrance to the tunnel has been plugged.
You can walk through and explore the tunnel but only to a certain distance as the water inside the tunnel gets too deep at approximately 200-300 metres into the tunnel.
Its said that the water reaches the roof near the end of the tunnel.
Train tracks to lead into the tunnel however only by 40-50 metres.

"She told me all the inhuman pain and suffering she had endured was worth it as it finally led her to me"

This one takes the cake.
"Serial Killers Unite"

As soon as i saw this i turned around quickly and ran as fast as i could out  of Metropolitan Tunnel...
What i didn't mention is that i slipped and landed in sloppy mud!
