NIF (Mariuyng) D Sets Not to Enter Service Until Late 2024

Sydney’s new fleet of Intercity Trains known as Mariyung, D Set or NIF (New Intercity Fleet) have had a rough trot.

With over 80 sets currently in Australia not one has entered service.
There are a number of safety issues that need to be rectified including the need for modifications to make the train suitable for Driver & Guard operation.
At this stage the trains are driver operated only until these modifications are complete.
A link to the news video will be added below.

In this video you will see and hear in detail what’s happening with these trains.
It is also made clear that these trains are getting the modifications needed and will not enter service until the later part of 2024.
A good thing in a way right?
More time with our V Sets 😁

These trains are way behind schedule due to the precious government making the silly choice to make them driver only.
They were meant to enter service on the:
Central Coast & Newcastle Line in 2019
Blue Mountains Line in 2020
South Coast Line in 2021

The colossal amount of sets here are stored throughout the network at places including
Broadmeadow Yard
Sulphide Junction
Wollongong Yard
Lithgow Yard
Lithgow Loco
Enfield Yard
Chullora Scrap Yard (my personal favourite)

The costs are crazy too!
Storage is exceeding the 10’s of Millions
Modifications will cost nearly a quarter of a Billion!

The modifications, understandably will take a while but at least the ball is finally rolling.

Cheers for reading 😊

Sydney Trains Vlogs: Waratah A42 Returns to Servie

Hi all.
Waratah set A42 which was damaged as a result of hitting the buffers at Richmond station Platform 2 in January 2018 has returned to service.
It returned to service in late March 2019.

D6342 being the carriage that hit the buffers is still at Cardiff.
PPTV carriage D6379 is replacing D6342 for the time being.

This set has all new gangways as most of the old ones were damaged in the accident.

In the photo above we see A42 at Central as it leaves Platform 17 for a City Circle service with D6379 being the closest car to the camera.

Below is a couple of showing A42 at Richmond on the day of the accident.

Transperth B Series Transfer Process

Typed on: Saturday 16th August 2016

Hi all and welcome to another STV Blog.

When i upload videos of Transperth B Series sets on the back of freight trains on transfer through Sydney a few of you ask why there is a B Series set in Sydney.

Well i thought id explain it.
Well ill do my best anyway.

For those who don't know what a Transperth B Series train is.
They are the newest passenger trains that operate in Perth on the Transperth Train Network.
Here's a photo of Transperth B Series set 115 being transferred through Thornleigh just north of Sydney with one of Sydnes new trains 'Waratah' next to it.

The B Series trains are built by Downer EDi in Maryborough in QLD.
The B series is transferred from the EDi plant in Maryborough to Acacia Ridge in South East QLD where it's put on standard gauge transfer bogies and attached to a freight train from Acacia Ridge to Morandoo Yard in NSW near Newcastle.
From Morandoo it's put on the back of a steel train and transferred to Port Augusta in South Australia via the Central Coast, Sydney & Goulburn etc.
Im sure it's put onto another train for the remainder of the journey from Port Augusta to Perth.

Tangara T106 Update

Typed on Friday 25th March 2016

Hi all.
Welcome to another STV Blog.

A lot of you have asked me when Tangara T106 is going to come back to Sydney after having it's major upgrade.
It has been at UGL Broadmeadow for almost 2 months now.
The last thing i heard is that a couple of weeks a go it was in one of the sheds completely stripped out.
The Tangara Technology Upgrade is suppose to take about 4 weeks per Tangara Set (maybe less).
As T106 is the first to get the upgrade it will take a bit longer as it's pretty much a prototype.

I will definitely be out to photograph and film T106 leave UGL on the day it is released.

The Tangara Technology Upgrade is suppose to include CCTV, internal PIDS, new driver dash etc.
It may or may not get a new livery.

More info will be shared as soon as it comes to hand.

Thanks for reading.

The '01 Trio

THE '01 TRIO:

On Monday 9th November 2015 i was in the City doing my "Opal Run" until i was notified that i must hurry to Erskineville to see something special..
I caught the next tram from The Star to Central station, ran over to platforms 22 & 23 at Central then caught Waratah set A26 to Erskineville station.
I couldn't have been at Erskineville for anymore than 5 minutes when i saw heritage locomotives 42101, 4401 & 4501 come around the corner.

Photo: 42101, 4401 & 4501 passing Erskineville Platform 3.
